5 Top Tips for Mother’s Day

If your church is planning a Mother’s Day service, here are our top 5 tips on how to make it as inclusive as possible for everyone!

Mother’s Day can be a difficult day for many, including single people. Social Media Manager Sarah shares our top tips from our research on how to acknowledge Mother’s Day in church in a sensitive and inclusive way.

Helpful approaches to Mother's Day (shared at our 2025 zoom)

  • Acknowledgement from the front that it can be a difficult day for many

  • Services that include various experiences around mothering/family life, such as adoption, fostering, 'spiritual mothers' within the church, and every believer being a child in God's family.

  • Allowing people to participate or not as they wish

  • Leaving any cards/flowers etc in a basket at the back of the church, so that those who want can take one and those who don't can just ignore it.

  • Keeping it very low key so that people can choose whether or not to celebrate Mother’s Day outside the service.
